My Final Project of the Game Gen Curriculum

I have been fortunate to have attended Game Gen for 8 months now. It has been a great start to fulfilling my childhood ambition. The final project that I have to tackle before I get to any serious stuff is to make an Adventure game. Something along the lines of Zelda. I'm not too experienced with this genre, but I have seen it in action and think that it has become one of the defining genres of gaming, next to the platformer of course. When I started working on it, I was wondering what sort of direction I could take it. As I've said before, I don't have much experience with adventure games and I didn't know what I could do at first. But then, I remembered seeing footage of a game that was similar to the original Legend of Zelda and was even developed around the same time as the Legend of Zelda with some of the same members on development. The game in question is called The Mysterious Murasame Castle (謎の村雨城, Nazo no Murasame Jō).

This game along with The Legend of Zelda were the flagship games for the Japan exclusive Famicom Disk System, an expansion to the Famicom that could play games from floppy disks. For a brief period Nintendo pushed for their major releases to be on the disk system since at the time, floppy disks were cheaper to make and could store more data. However as the technology behind cartridges began to improve and chip prices began going down, the disk system quickly became obsolete. Despite this though, there are notable games for the system that many people don't know about due their exclusivity, and The Mysterious Murasame Castle is one of them.

I'm working on making my adventure game look similar to what you can see above. I feel like this will be my most intensive project yet, but I will give it my best and maybe add a bit of my own spice to it. Stay tuned for more news later down the line.
